The next federal election will have a ‘trifecta of issues’

The Australian’s Canberra Bureau Chief Joe Kelly says he thinks the next federal election in 2022 is going to have a “trifecta of issues”.

“It’s going to run on the economy, it’s going to, I think, run on national security, and it will run on its pandemic record, so I think they’re the three big themes that we’re going to see from Morrison going into the new year,” Mr Kelly told Sky News host Caleb Bond.

He said he is “not convinced” Australia will end up with a hung parliament.

“Most recent Newspoll showed that Labor’s doing very well, but if there is a hung parliament, you have a number of independents who actually hold conservative seats, so I wonder whether they will face the same dilemma that we had back in 2010.”
