Student nearly drowns on school trip, airlifted to hospital

A student has nearly drowned on a surfing excursion with her school at a beach in the Middleton suburb of Adelaide.

The 16-year-old girl was pulled from the water and given CPR by paramedics at 11:30am today.

Paramedics stabilised the teen before airlifting her to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where she remains in a serious condition.

The teenager was on a surfing school excursion with Reynella East College.

The school said it was offering counselling and support to both students and parents.
