Proposal to make some parts of Melbourne CBD car free

A new proposal could make some parts of Melbourne's CBD car free to give more space to pedestrians during construction works.

The City of Melbourne has put forward the the proposal so pedestrians can stay safe in the city while developments are underway.

The proposal has been sparked by major developments for new train stations.

The restrictions will not get rid of all cars but may include single lane bans or closures during peak times.

Essential vehicles like emergency service vehicles will still be able to get.

The public is able to give feedback before the council votes whether or not to endorse the proposal next month.
