A woman was rushed to hospital in Perth yesterday afternoon after she was attacked by her two pet rottweiler dogs.

Police were called to the 31-year-old woman's home in the southern suburb of Success about 4.35pm.

When officers arrived, the two dogs were attacking their owner.

Police were forced to shoot at one of the dogs.

"Due to the extremely aggressive nature of the dogs, and the ongoing risk to human life, a police firearm was discharged to stop the attack," a spokesperson for WA Police told 9news.com.au in a statement.

One of the dogs received serious injuries.

The second dog was secured in the garage until council rangers from the City of Cockburn arrived.

The woman was left with serious wounds on her arms and legs and was taken in an ambulance to the Royal Perth Hospital for treatment.

Council rangers seized both dogs and the City of Cockburn is investigating the incident.
