NSW in a ‘strong position’ despite COVID case surge

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet said high vaccination rates will protect the state’s hospital system despite a significant surge in COVID-19 cases.

Overnight, New South Wales has recorded 21,151 coronavirus cases and six additional deaths.

The record-breaking infections, which were found in 148,410 tests, follows 12,226 cases on Thursday, 11,201 on Wednesday and 6,062 on Tuesday.

In a press conference on Friday, Premier Perrottet said he understands the public’s anxiety.

“I know and understand that many people across our state today are anxious. But just like the challenges of the last two years, we will get through this challenge as well and come out stronger the other side,” he said.

“It has been an incredibly challenging year, but we stand here today in an incredibly strong position as we head into 2022 because of the efforts and the sacrifices and the great spirit of the people of New South Wales.”
