Australians wanting to access their My Health Record on their phones are now able to do so via a new mobile app, after the Digital Health Agency launched My Health.

The app was created following a 292 per cent jump in views of My Health Record in the 2021-22 financial year, and will give Australians access to a range of other medical information.

Here's everything you need to know about the My Health app.

How can I download the My Health app?

The My Health app is free to download on iPhones and Android devices. Android users need to have operating system 9 (which came out in August 2018) or up to run the app, while iPhones need to be running iOS 15 (which was released in 2021) or up to be compatible.

The app is listed as "my health gov" in both the App Store and Google Play Store, and can be found by clicking the following links for Apple and Android phones.

An internet connection is required to use the app even after it has been downloaded.

What information is available in the My Health app?

Users can link their My Health Record to the My Health app to quickly access that information and uploaded documents on their phones.

That includes:

• Medical timeline
• Medicine information and history
• Pathology results, including for COVID-19 swabs, and respiratory test results
• Vaccination history and upcoming jabs
• Allergies
• Discharge summaries
• Care planning documents

The Australian Digital Health Agency says any information will be automatically downloaded onto the app as soon as it has been added to the linked My Health Record.

Users can also share documents with other people, such as healthcare providers or carers, and view other records they have been authorised to access, like those of their young children.

However, it is not possible to add information in the app – to add or change data, users need to do so directly through My Health Record via MyGov.

What security features does the app have?

The Australian Digital Health Agency says its app has a number of security features to protect user information.

"My Health is fortified with robust data protection mechanisms to secure consumers' health information against external interference and is fully integrated with end-to-end encryption with the My Health Record platform," it said.

"A seamless connection between the app and the platform is made by leveraging the new Health API Gateway."

You can see all the details about how My Health treats sensitive and personal information at its privacy policy.

Unlike government applications like the Medicare app, which requires users to log into MyGov before they can access the app, My Health doesn't require you to log into My Health Record.

Instead, it relies on device security – like your existing PIN or fingerprint login – and users are encouraged to set up an additional six-digit PIN to access the app.
