Local council leaders around Australia are encouraged to get their staff together to compete in the next season of the Australasian Management Challenge.
Delivered by Local Government Professionals Australia, the Challenge has been running for more than 25 years.
The Management Challenge allows local government professionals to take part in a simulation-based team building, learning and networking program.
It uses real local government themes, addressing issues senior management teams within local council are likely to face.
The teams will be required to respond to a series of tasks in a unique, fast-paced environment.
Some tasks will require written responses, including council reports and recommendation documents, and other tasks include role plays and presentations.
The teams are given a score based on how well they display energy, synergy, effectiveness and creative thinking.
CEO Catherine Carter said the Challenge is a “critical” part of the local government learning and development toolkit.
“The issues local government have faced over the past two years, including natural disasters and a pandemic, have cast into sharp relief the increasingly wide array of challenges local government professionals are faced with on a day-to-day basis,” she said in a statement.
“The Management Challenge helps participants to develop key skills such as leadership, analytics, communication, negotiation, presentation and decision-making skills.”
Last year’s winner was Steve Kozlowski, CEO of Maroondah City Council.
“Regular participation in the Challenge builds a broad level of professional development in aspiring leaders within your organisation,” he said in a statement.
Over the years, the challenge has attracted more than 100 teams and hundreds of local government professionals from across Oceania.
Registrations are now open, with early bird registrations available until January 22 and registrations to close on February 12.
