Man seriously injured after Melbourne home erupts into flames

A man has been seriously injured after a large fire broke out in Melbourne's north in the early hours of the morning.

The fire took hold of the double-storey house on Rhodes Parade in Pascoe Vale about 4.30am, with the cause believed to be suspicious, according to firefighters.

A man in his 60s, who managed to flee the house, was treated at the scene for serious burns before being taken to the Alfred Hospital in a serious condition.

Firefighters helped residents evacuate the neighbouring homes.

The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes.

Emergency services are still on scene.
