Man remains on bail after allegedly causing horror crash

Ahmed Mubashir has been charged with driving more than 45km/h over the speed limit, driving at a dangerous speed occasioning death, driving in a dangerous manner occasioning death, and negligent driving occasioning death.It was previously heard in court that police will allege the Victorian resident was driving a grey Toyota RAV4 at more than 45km/h over the signposted speed on Picton Road in Picton at 4.45am on Sunday morning when he allegedly clipped the side of the roundabout near Maldon Bridge Road.Police allege the car flipped several times and landed in a nearby creek, and that a teenager, who was the passenger in the car, was decapitated upon impact and his body was thrown for more than 40 metres from the vehicle.According to police, the passenger died at the scene while Mr Mubashir was taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment of injuries and for mandatory testing.In court on Wednesday, Mr Mubashir’s lawyer made representations by letter informing the court they had not been served the full brief of evidence from the prosecution.The police prosecutor said the Director of Public Prosecutions needed another four weeks to prepare the brief. Mr Mubashir was granted bail in April after being released from Liverpool Hospital where he was treated for injuries sustained during the crash. He is to reside at a Punchbowl address, report daily to police, stay in NSW and not get behind the wheel of a car. A deposit of $10,000 in surety was also ordered.According to court, police allege “there is a strong prosecution case” and no pleas have been entered in the case. The matter returns to Picton Local Court on July 8.
