A man in his 20s remains in a serious condition in hospital after being found unconscious on a Sydney eastern suburbs footpath overnight.
At about 1.30am today police located the man on Bunnerong Road in Matraville suffering serious head and facial injuries.
Paramedics were called to the scene and the man was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital with a suspected fractured jaw.
Detective Acting Inspector Michael Capon said police have reason to believe the incident is in relation to a pub assault.
"We have information that there was a confrontation earlier in that evening between two males within a licensed premise," he said.
"And then there was a later confrontation out on the street on Bunnerong Road that morning."
Capon said the man appears to have suffered injuries from being punched and then hitting the footpath.
"These one-punch style hits are extremely dangerous to the victims involved," he said.
Police have issued a description of a man they believe may be able to help with inquires.
He is described of being Caucasian with a solid build and about 183cm tall.
He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, white shorts, a dark hat and a right arm cast.
