Man charged after allegedly setting 51-year-old on fire

A New South Wales man will appear in court today after being charged with allegedly setting another man on fire over the weekend.

On Saturday afternoon emergency services received reports a man had sustained serious burns at Saddleback Mountain, west of Kiama.

At a property on Fountaindale Road officers found a 51-year-old with serious burns to his head, chest and face.

A vehicle was burning nearby.

Detectives established a crime scene and on Sunday morning a 42-year-old man was arrested at Saddleback Mountain

He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where multiple charges were laid on him, including throw/lay explosive other substance with intent to burn/maim/disable/do grievous bodily harm.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Wollongong Local Court today.

The victim was treated at the scene before being rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital.

He remains in a critical condition.
