Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision in Sunshine West and described the fleeing trio scene as “cowards”. It is believed the four occupants were travelling north along Links Rd in a white Audi sedan about 1am, when they failed to give way and collided with a gold Honda sedan travelling east on Glengala Rd.Both vehicles then crashed into two parked cars on Links Rd.The driver of the Honda, a 69-year-old Sunshine West man, died at the scene.Three occupants of the Audi were seen fleeing the scene on foot, including the driver. Detective Sergeant Stephen Hill said to run was a “cowardly, bastardly act”.“The law says you need to stop and you need to help … because you have a real chance of saving someone’s life,” he said. “Unfortunately, they’ve just taken the cowardly act.“It’s a real bastard act to leave a person dying on the side of the road as a result of a collision you’ve been involved in.”However, one of the occupants, a 22-year-old Wyndham woman, stopped to assist and is currently assisting police with their inquiries.Local diversions are in place, with the Department of Transport telling motorists to allow extra time and drive with caution.Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
