Heavy Snow Shuts Down Highways in California’s Placer County

A winter storm prompted the closure of roads throughout mountainous areas of Northern California on Monday, December 27. Video from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office shows conditions on I-80 near Applegate on Monday. The sheriff’s office asked “anyone and everyone to please stay home.” December’s total snowfall measured 193.7 inches, breaking the previous record of 179 inches in 1970, the California Highway Patrol reported.
