Residents of a small WA farming community have been urged to shelter indoors as police hunt for a gunman, amid reports a man has been shot.

It's believed the man went to a grain silo in Kellerberrin, 200km west of Perth, at around 8.40am (10.40am AEST) and discharged his gun.

He then fled in a vehicle.

Police are working to confirm the make and model of the vehicle.

One person was injured in the incident and has been taken to hospital, police have confirmed.

"A large number of police resources have been deployed to the wheatbelt area," WA Police said in a statement.

"Members of the public in the area are advised to remain indoors at all times."

More to come.
