Good Samaritan attacked by group after going to victim's rescue

A Good Samaritan was savagely attacked after he tried to stop a group assaulting a man outside a bar in Melbourne.

Police have been told the 37-year-old St Kilda man was walking home when he saw a group of men attacking a man at the intersection of Chapel and Victoria streets in Windsor about 5.50am on February 12.

The attackers turned on the St Kilda man when he tried to stop the attack, police have said.

The St Kilda man was allegedly pushed to the ground and repeatedly kicked in his head.

The group then headed north on Chapel Street on foot.

The St Kilda was taken to hospital with facial injuries and concussion.

Police are calling for help to find the attackers, who they believed are aged in their 20s.
