Covid-positive robbers plunge watchhouse into lockdown

The three men threw the watch-house into lockdown after they were arrested for an attempted armed robbery in Forest Lake during the early hours of December 29.The men were placed in cells but police officers soon noticed one of the men appeared ill.“Upon entering custody at the Richlands Watchhouse, one of the males arrested displayed Covid-like symptoms and was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where they subsequently tested positive for Covid,” a police statement said.“The two other men were also tested and subsequently returned positive results.”Their diagnosis caused seven police officers to be declared close contacts. Those officers are now isolating and awaiting test results.“All officers exposed were wearing appropriate PPE,” the police statement said.“Although initially locked down, the Richlands Watchhouse site has been fully remediated and became fully operational from 4pm December 29.“All prisoners at Richlands Watchhouse continue to be health monitored.”
