The city of Melville in WA has appointed its first female CEO, with Gail Bowman stepping into the role.
Ms Bowman replaces Marten Tieleman, whose five year term ends on November 20.
Ms Bowman is currently the City’s director of community involvement and has a lifelong career in local and state government, including executive roles at City of Cockburn.
In a statement, she said she was passionate about Council-led strategic planning and alignment, good governance and community engagement.
“I also want to ensure high performance in the delivery of excellent customer and community-centric services and facilities that meet the needs of our diverse Melville community,” Ms Bowman said.
Mayor George Gear said Ms Bowman was committed to working with Council to get the best outcomes for the community.
“It is also important to acknowledge that while the City of Melville has had female Mayors in the past, and currently has a majority of women serving on Council, Gail will be the City’s first ever female CEO, which is something to celebrate, and one could also argue is about time, Cr Gear said in a statement.
