A young boy has suffered a deep cut to his head after being hit by a car in Sydney's Inner West.

The boy was reportedly hit by a car in a school zone on Sydenham Road in Marrickville about 8.20am.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Mick Corlis said bystanders provided the initial first aid to the boy who had suffered a deep cut to his head.

"Car accidents involving children can be quite confronting scenes to attend," Corlis said.

Paramedics arrived a short time later and helped to control the bleeding from the wound before the boy was taken to Sydney Children's Hospital in a stable condition.

Corlis said it was one of three accidents to occur in a school zone in Sydney this morning.

"Luckily none of the children were seriously injured," he said.

"It is a reminder to drivers to be extremely careful in school zones.

"There are lots of people around, especially children who can step onto the road unexpectedly or suddenly appear behind  buses or large vehicles."
