Alleged crime syndicate member extradited to Australia

A Chinese-British dual national has been extradited from Thailand to Australia to face court over alleged involvement in drug trafficking.

The Australian Federal Police says the 66-year-old man is a suspected of being a senior criminal associate of a leader of a major crime syndicate.

He was allegedly in charge of a plan to transport large amounts of methamphetamine, up to 40kgs, over a 12-month period in 2012.

The man was arrested in his Bangkok apartment on October 1, 2020 by the Royal Thai Police and was extradited to Melbourne on Saturday.

He appeared before Melbourne's Magistrates' Court yesterday to face a charge of conspiracy to traffic a commercial quantity of a controlled drug, which carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
