Supermarket chain Aldi is urgently recalling some faulty power point USB wall sockets over fears the product can cause house fires or death from electrocution.
The double USB power points, made under the brand name Workzone, have been sold at Aldi stores across New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory, the recall notice said.
The notice said the defect was related to "weak contacts in the power point" and that "there is a risk of serious injury or death from fire or electrocution".
Consumers should immediately stop using power points with Product Code 708521, the notice warned.
Aldi is recalling the following model numbers and batch numbers: Model number: RPOD10U-AA; Model number: RPOD10U-AC; Batch number: 05/2023 or 07/2023; Product Code: 708521.
The faulty products were sold over several months this year, from 27 May to 4 August.
People who bought the product should return it to any Aldi for a full refund or complete an online form to arrange a free replacement.
