A number of New Year’s events expected to go ahead in Perth

Despite restrictions in place for Perth in Western Australia, a number of events are still expected to go ahead for people to celebrate the New Year period.

The recent WA COVID cluster linked to the unvaccinated backpacker has risen to 14, with one local case detected on Friday.

There is no dancing unless at a wedding, nightclubs are closed, and several outdoor music events and New Year’s festivals have been cancelled due to the restrictions in place.

Police are, however, expecting a number of house parties to go ahead this evening because the indoor mask mandate doesn’t apply to household premises.

Despite the restrictions, there will still be a number of events to go ahead in Perth for residents to celebrate the New Year’s festivities, such as the fireworks display in Fremantle and Perth.

There will be two sets of fireworks from 9pm and at midnight.
